Ohio Women’s Golf Finishes Play at the Bama Beach Bash

GULF SHORES, Ala. – The Ohio Women’s Golf team finished play today (Mar. 19) at the Bama Beach Bash hosted by UAB. The Bobcats finished in 14th place with a score of 632 (+56), helped by a strong performance from Mackenzie McRee.
The Bobcats competed in a field of 17 teams including Sam Houston, Austin Peay, Oral Roberts, UNC Asheville, Central Arkansas, UAB, North Alabama, North Carolina A&T, Southern Illinois, Tarleton State, Jacksonville, Omaha, Drake, Winthrop, Lindenwood, and South Alabama. Ultimately, Sam Houston took home the championship, shooting a 585 (+9) over the two rounds.
The Bama Beach Bash was originally scheduled for three rounds, however, due to inclement weather the opening round on Monday (Mar. 17) was canceled and the tournament was changed to 54 holes.
Leading the way for the Bobcats, sophomore Mackenzie McRee (Tucson, Ariz.) placed in a tie for 35th. McRee’s rounds of 78 (+6) and 76 (+4), helped her finish with a total of 154 (+10). McRee tied for the lead in birdies and pars among Bobcat golfers.
Trailing three shots behind McRee, junior Sydney Longstreth (Carmel, Ind.) finished in a tie for 50th with a total score of 157 (+13). Longstreth opened her tournament with a score of 80 (+8), but was bounced back for a final round score of 77 (+5).
Senior Mariana Vega-Rivera (Reynoldsburg, Ohio) and freshman Zoe Luebbers (Cincinnati, Ohio) finished one stroke apart on the two rounds. Vega-Rivera had rounds of 79 (+7) and 81 (+9) to finish in a tie for 67th with a total score of 160 (+16). Luebbers placed in a tie for 71st with a tournament score of 161 (+17). Luebbers had scores of 82 (+10) and 79 (+7) over the two rounds.
Rounding out the lineup for the Bobcats, freshman Morgan Rodgers (Centerville, Ohio) finished in 91st. Her total score of 168 (+24) included rounds of 85 (+13) and 83 (+11).
Ohio will return to the course on Monday, April 1st for the Golfweek Any Given Tuesday Intercollegiate in Pawley’s Island, South Carolina. The tournament will be hosted at Caledonia Golf & Fish Club and will wrap up after three rounds on Wednesday, April 3rd.
