Ohio State Advances to Regional Final, Scores a 196.975

ANN ARBOR, Mich. – The Ohio State women’s gymnastics team finished second in the Second Round of the 2024 National Collegiate Women’s Gymnastics Championships’ Ann Arbor Regional on Thursday with a score of 196.975. With the result, the Buckeyes advanced to Saturday’s Regional Final with first-place Oklahoma (198.050).
The Buckeyes were in third place behind the Sooners and Illinois for the first two rotations, but jumped the Illini in the third rotation. After three events, Ohio State held a .025 advantage over Illinois and finished with a .225 lead to advance to the next round.
“We were not 100% today, but I always tell (the team) you have to minimize your mistakes and move on,” head coach Meredith Paulicivic said. “They did that so well today. They fought all the way to the end and I’m so proud of them.”
Balance Beam (49.100)
Leading the Buckeyes on balance beam in the first rotation was Payton Harris with a 9.875 to tie for 10th overall in the second round. She was followed by Ella Hodges (9.850), Tory Vetter (9.825), Emma Pritchard (9.800) and Alexis Hankins and Courtney McCann with 9.750s.
Floor (49.325)
The Buckeyes’ best event of the night was floor. In her homecoming, Ann Arbor native Sidney Washington tied her season high with a 9.900. Hodges tied Washington with a 9.900 of her own for her 11th score of 9.900 or higher this season. The duo tied for fifth overall in the regional. Harris and Vetter scored 9.850s and the Buckeyes counted a 9.825 from Savannah Gonzalez to complete the rotation.
Vault (49.275)
Ohio State moved into second place in the third rotation with a 49.275 on vault. Harris and Riccardi led the team with 9.875s to tie for seventh overall. Washington and Kaitlyn Grimes added 9.850s and McCann and Vetter scored 9.825s. With one event to go, Ohio State held a .025 advantage over Illinois.
Uneven Bars (49.275)
The Buckeyes extended their lead in the final rotation, finishing the meet with a 49.275 on uneven bars. Harris’ 9.900 in the four spot appeared to seal the deal for the Buckeyes. scored a 9.900 to lead the Buckeyes. Riccardi was next, in both lineup and score, with a 9.875 in the five spot. Washington and Vetter added 9.850s and Pritchard and Hankins contributed 9.800s in the rotation.
