Oskaloosa, Iowa, (Feb. 24, 2024)- The No. 13 Missouri Valley College women’s wrestling team competed at the Heart of America Athletic Conference Championship in Oskaloosa, Iowa, Saturday.  The team was led by two individual champions, with a total of five Vikings earning an automatic qualifying berth into the 2024 NAIA Women’s Wrestling National Championship.

 

No. 18 Sophomore Sage Beltran (Honolulu, Hawaii)-101 pounds:

First Round: Received a bye.

Quarterfinal: Received a bye.

Semifinal: Defeated Jessica Romo of Dickinson State (N.D.) in a first period (0:55) pin.

Championship Match: Defeated No. 14 Teya Garner of William Penn (Iowa) in a first period pin.

Beltran earns an individual conference championship and automatic qualifying berth into the 2024 NAIA Women’s Wrestling National Championship.

 

Junior Elise Falcetti (St. Louis, Mo.)-155 pounds:

First Round: Received a bye.

Quarterfinal: Defeated Annsleigh Alexander of Central Methodist (Mo.) in a first period (1:11) pin.

Semifinal: Defeated Kuuipo Chan of Waldorf (Iowa) in a 7-6 decision.

Championship Match: Defeated Haidyn Snyder of Grand View (Iowa) in a 9-2 decision.

Falcetti earns an individual conference championship and automatic qualifying berth into the 2024 NAIA Women’s Wrestling National Championship.

 

No. 11 Junior Hailey Holland (San Bernardino, Calif.)-109 pounds:

First Round: Received a bye.

Quarterfinal: Defeated No. 12 Kylee Slyter of Baker (Kan.) in a second period (4:20) pin.

Semifinal: Lost to No. 1 Mia Palumbo of William Penn (Iowa) in a first period pin.

Consolation Semifinal: Defeated Mya Turnmire of William Penn (Iowa) in a 10-0 technical fall.

Third Place Match: Lost to No. 10 Judy Sandoval of Grand View (Iowa) in a 13-2 technical fall.

Holland places fourth at 109 pounds and earns an automatic qualifying berth into the 2024 NAIA Women’s Wrestling National Championship.

 

No. 16 Senior Aniseta Acosta (Sacramento, Calif.)-136 pounds:

First Round: Received a bye.

Quarterfinal: Defeated Taylor Johnson of William Woods (Mo.) in an 11-0 technical fall.

Semifinal: Lost to No. 1 Adaugo Nwachukwu of William Penn (Iowa) in a 10-0 technical fall.

Consolation Semifinal: Defeated teammate Willow Barnes in a 10-0 technical fall.

Third Place Match: Lost to No. 14 Lily Gough of Central Methodist (Mo.) in a second period (5:49) pin.

Acosta places fourth at 136 pounds and earns an automatic qualifying berth into the 2024 NAIA Women’s Wrestling National Championship.

 

No. 4 Freshman Serenity De La Garza (McAllen, Texas)-143 pounds:

First Round: Received a bye.

Quarterfinal: Defeated Naida Abdijanovic of William Penn (Iowa) in a second period (5:11) pin.

Semifinal: Lost to No. 12 Madison Diaz of Grand View (Iowa) in a 10-0 technical fall.

Consolation Semifinal: Defeated Mariah Wahl of Dickinson State (N.D.) in a first period (1:13) pin.

Third Place Match: Lost to No. 11 Isabelle Hawley of William Penn (Iowa) in a second period pin.

De La Garza places fourth at 143 pounds and earns an automatic berth into the 2024 NAIA Women’s Wrestling National Championship.

 

Senior Laura Lincoln (Searcy, Ark.)-116 pounds:

Semifinal: Lost to No. 3 Katherine Heath of Baker (Kan.) in a 10-0 technical fall.

Consolation Semifinal: Defeated Geraldyne Fernandez of Dickinson State (N.D.) in a 10-0 technical fall.

Third Place Match: Lost to Zoe Shariq of Baker (Kan.) in a first period pin.

Lincoln places fourth at 116 pounds.

Consolation Second Round: Defeated Mckenna Deckelman of Central Methodist (Mo.) in a second period (3:59) pin.

Consolation Third Round: Defeated Abbie Jones of Baker (Kan.) in an 18-8 technical fall.

Consolation Semifinal: Defeated teammate Chase Kiel in a first period (1:55) pin.

Third Place Match: Lost to Jennifer Castaneda of Waldorf (Iowa) in an 8-4 decision.

Santana places fourth at 130 pounds.

 

Freshman Chase Kiel (Kansas City, Mo.)-130 pounds:

Quarterfinal: Defeated Abigail Atibagos of Waldorf (Iowa) in a first round (1:19) pin.

Semifinal: Lost to No. 7 Devin Patton of William Penn (Iowa) in a 12-2 technical fall.

Consolation Semifinal: Lost to teammate No. 17 Madeline Santana in a first period pin.

Fifth Place Match: Defeated Willow Dubois of Baker (Kan.) in a 10-0 technical fall.

Kiel places fifth at 130 pounds.

 

Senior Willow Barnes (Romulus, Mich.)-136 pounds:

First Round: Received a bye.

Quarterfinal: Lost to No. 2 Andrea Schlabach of Grand View (Iowa) in an 11-0 technical fall.

Consolation Second Round: Received a bye.

Consolation Third Round: Defeated Belle Hernandez of Baker (Kan.) in a second period (3:13) pin.

Consolation Semifinal: Lost to teammate No. 16 Aniseta Acosta in a 10-0 technical fall.

Fifth Place Match: Defeated Emily Neumann of Central Methodist (Mo.) in a 10-6 decision.

Barnes placed fifth at 136 pounds.

 

No. 17 Freshman Maria Slaughter (Wentzville, Mo.)-143 pounds:

First Round: Defeated Mariah Wahl of Dickinson State (N.D.) in a first period (0:40) pin.

Quarterfinal: Lost to No. 12 Madison Diaz of Grand View (Iowa) in a 10-0 technical fall.

Consolation Second Round: Defeated Reagan Wonnell of Baker (Kan.) in a first period (0:59) pin.

Consolation Third Round: Lost to Naida Abdijanovic of William Penn (Iowa) in a first period pin.

 

No. 10 Senior Brooke-Lynn Rush (St. Joseph, Mo.)-155 pounds:

Quarterfinal: Lost by forfeit to Niah Smith of Waldorf (Iowa).

Consolation Second Round: Received a bye.

Consolation Third Round: Lost by forfeit to Emma Cole of Central Methodist (Mo.).

 

No. 21 Freshman Tylah Allen (Jonesboro, Ark.)-170 pounds:

First Round: Received a bye.

Quarterfinal: Defeated Abby Piper of William Woods (Mo.) in a second period (4:26) pin.

Semifinal: Lost to No. 1 Ashley Lekas of William Penn (Iowa) in a 10-0 technical fall.

Consolation Semifinal: Defeated Tambria Wilson of Central Methodist in a second period (3:44) pin.

Third Place Match: Lost to No. 20 Jaclyn Daley of Baker (Kan.) in a second period pin.

Allen places fourth at 170 pounds.

 

Missouri Valley finished third in the team standings with 137.5 points.  No. 3 Grand View (Iowa) won the championship with 185 points, followed by No. 8 William Penn (Iowa) with 171.5 points.  No. 15 Baker (Kan.) was fourth with 101 points. 

 

Beltran at 101 pounds, Holland at 109 pounds, Acosta at 136 pounds, De La Garza at 143 pounds and Falcetti at 155 pounds each earned automatic qualifying berths into the National championship.  Remaining at-large qualifiers will be announced by the NAIA, Tuesday.

 

Up next is the 2024 NAIA Women’s Wrestling National Championship, set for March 8-9 in Jamestown, N.D.
