No. 32 Women’s Tennis Falls Short to No. 43 Tusculum

GREENEVILLE, Tenn. – The Lenoir-Rhyne Women’s Tennis Team had its five-match win streak snapped with a 4-3 loss to Tusculum.

The Bears could not have had a better start to the day as all three doubles lines won their matches to earn the first point. While the No. 2 and No. 3 lines had comfortable 6-2 victories, the No. 1 spot of Claudia Orsini and Runa Muderrisoglu took a 7-5 victory.

With the 1-0 start on the road, LR appeared to be in a good spot, however, Tusuculum responded by taking the first three singles matches to put the Pioneers on the verge of victory.

Fortunately for the Bears, they picked up some momentum with Muderrisoglu’s straight-set victory at No. 1 singles. The freshman extended her singles win streak to 10 with her 6-4, 6-1 win.

Following Muderrisoglu’s outcome, Alicia Wahlberg kept her perfect singles record intact with her own 6-4, 6-1 result. The senior, who moved back up to the No. 3 spot this match, is 9-0 in that line of the order.

With the match coming down No. 5 singles, Dawson Clifford secured a 6-3 opening set win to put the Bears on the doorstep of victory. But, her opponent, Thilda Danielsson, stormed back in the match by winning the final two sets, 6-3, 6-2, which clinched the match victory over Tusculum.

UP NEXT: The Lenoir-Rhyne Women’s Tennis Team will remain on the road with a mid-week conference contest against Emory & Henry on Tuesday, April 2. The match is scheduled to start at 2 p.m. from the Ida Jones Tennis Center in Bristol, Tenn.
